  1. Residual Hauntings: A residual haunting is one of the most common hauntings. This type of haunting doesn't involve an actual entity, just an energy imprint from a tragic or emotional event that took place in the past. These events can be both negative and positive. It's similar to a VCR tape playing over and over and can take years to play itself out depending on the active response from people experiencing the activity.

  2. Poltergeists: Poltergeist is from a German word meaning noisy spirits. This type of haunting usually has an agent and begins with knocking, banging and furniture moving, and quickly escalates to voices being heard and full body apparitions. The person or agent may be highly stressed as of late or maybe this person has gone through some type of extreme emotional situation.

  3. Intelligent Hauntings: (Also referred to as an "active" haunting.) Most intelligent hauntings are actual earthbound spirits that haven't crossed over into the light. They may be hanging around due to unfinished business, attachments to people, places, and things, or due to guilt and fear. Sudden, unexpected and tragic deaths may result in a spirit not knowing they died.

  4. Demonic Hauntings: Demonic hauntings are the rarest but do exist. Often times they are brought in through portals opened by inexperienced occult practioners using various types of spirit communication, spells gone wrong, and simply not closing the doors they open during these practices. These hauntings can start out gradual and demonic entities can and will disguise themselves as a person that can be trusted, this most often being a child.
