The Haunting at Kersey Valley The Fiddler House I guess I will start with the ghost story I was told back in 2007 concerning the Fiddler House Haunting. The story goes…… “It was a cold and snowy night, when a traveler broke down near the home. The family took the man in as a border and each night after dinner he would entertain them by playing his fiddle. One morning the family noticed the man didn’t come down for breakfast and the mother sent her daughters upstairs to check on him. They found him dead. Being a rather large man made it impossible to remove his body from the attic space he died in, so they had to cut out a section of the house and lower his body to the hearse that was waiting below. Soon after the boarder's death the family began hearing footsteps in the attic and the faint sounds of fiddle music being played.” We haven’t been able to confirm this particular version of the story but have heard rumors about revisions being made to the house to remove the body of an alcoholic male that died in the attic. We are currently researching the property and continue paranormal investigations with the hopes of finding answers to our questions about evidence gathered over the past 15 years. “The reason we kept coming back……” 2007-The Fiddler House The Wiston Salem Paranormal Society started investigating at the Spookywoods Fiddler House in 2007 right after the haunted attraction shutdown for the year. WSPS Co-Founder Sarah Sherman and Michelle Kindley worked as Evil Faries during the Halloween season and had several personal experiences which led them to ask permission to come in and investigate. “Over the next few years, the team returns many times and was never disappointed by the activity experienced during investigations.” My own personal experience in the house is what keeps me coming back and those experiences began in 2008. I remember sitting with several members of the WSPS upstairs in the room to the left when I felt something scratch me on my right foot. A few days later Sarah Sherman sends me an EVP and ask me what I thought it said. Behind me talking about the scratch on my foot something says, “GET OUT!”. Being rather new to the scientific methods used to collect evidence at that time, this was the first EVP I ever heard as a paranormal investigator. Team members experienced things like makeup and clothespins being thrown at them from the room upstairs on the left. Knocks on the wall downstairs near the front door were heard when investigators asked if anyone was present to please knock on a wall, and fiddle music was captured on audio recorders. 2008-The Kersey Valley Property The property was pretty active as well back during those years and WSPS members had many personal experiences and captured several EVPs while investigating. Evidence collected in 2008 include an EVP of a young girl chanting and drums being played, an EVP of a male answering “Yup” in response to a question being asked and many other personal experiences by team members. 2020-The Fiddler House WSPS’s meetup group, the Kernersville Paranormal Research started investigating again during the summer of 2020. After numerous paranormal investigations we collected even more evidence proving the haunting at the Fiddler House to be real. Amongst the evidence collected there have been several names come through both the spirit box sessions and while using the Estes method……Anna, Mary, Brandon, Phillip, Tom, Thomas, David, Tony and Fredrick have come up often. EVPs collected have been both male and female and we’ve gotten great results when using Jack Daniels and cigarettes as trigger objects. On one occasion the investigators had numerous responses from the rempod and cat balls while talking about ice cream. The flashlight experiments have been very successful in previous investigations and the spirits in the house seem to trust the method as a way of communicating with investigators. 2021-The Manor House We first started investigating at the Manor House Escape Room after the staff gets a video of a black mist floating through the doorway. We began our investigation by taking a tour of the property. Eclectic Paranormal Research Alliance member representing Mojo 4D Soul, Cristina stopped during the walk and told us that she felt something brush up against her legs. We continued the property tour and entered the house. About 5 minutes into the first recording, you can hear a dog bark. There are no dogs nearby on the property and it sounds like the dog is in the house. There are numerous props in the Manor House Escape Room, and they mostly come from nearby thrift stores. So, it’s very possible that there may be attachments to some of these props and maybe some lingering residual energy. 2021-Kersey Valley Property Black Shadow Figures and Native Americans have been seen on the property throughout the years. Most recently several members of both WSPS and Kersey Valley Paranormal have seen black shadow figures that appear to be hunched over and possibly Native American related. Our research on this type of haunting has just begun, so check back at a later date for more information.
